Despite the significant impacts of COVID-19, a number of SMEs, ENCQOR partners and researchers have continued their work on ENCQOR 5G projects in the past few months. We recognize the perseverance of our project partners in Quebec and Ontario in the development of solutions and applications using 5G.
The projects in progress cover several fields, including information technology, health, agriculture, multimedia, virtual reality, cybersecurity, telework and smart cities. These projects may all contribute to improving the resiliency of Canada’s innovation ecosystem, advance our knowledge on 5G and help our economy.
ENCQOR Innovation Hubs
Although our five ENCQOR hubs are reopening or planning to reopen soon, the ENCQOR 5G testbed network has been up and running and remains available for remote access for some functionalities. Furthermore, we have put in place a process that allows ENCQOR project participants to access the testbed and 5G devices from outside the hub buildings, taking social distancing protocols into account. In addition, our hub in Montreal also allows indoor testing as of June. Access to our network can be requested from the encqor.ca website or through our support organizations.
Finally, we have a series of webinars on 5G related themes that has begun, where we already have had hundreds of participants.
In light of all these accomplishments, and despite COVID-19 restrictions, we can confidently state that the ENCQOR 5G program is alive and kicking, and is open for business, research and learning.
