ENCQOR 5G is continuing its operations in a sustained manner
As we approach the end of the lockdown period and prepare to restart the economy, I wish to reiterate our invitation to Quebec and Ontario SMEs to participate in the pandemic technological challenge launched by ENCQOR 5G on April 9. We are looking for innovative 5G solutions to help Canada become more resilient when faced with crises like this pandemic. Without restricting the challenge to specific areas, the solutions sought could notably be applied to the health and educational fields, or to various economic sectors, such as transportation, manufacturing, agriculture and smart cities.
We are convinced that Quebec and Ontario companies, as well as the academic community, are capable of envisioning and developing creative approaches to address the issues raised by situations such as COVID-19, through leveraging the new and numerous possibilities offered by 5G technology. Together we can reinvent our ways of doing things in various key sectors of human activity, which will make us collectively stronger when we face an eventual new crisis.
In Quebec, projects can be submitted to either of two programs offered to SMEs by ENCQOR 5G:
- The pre-commercial technological projects program aimed at developing and testing new generation products and services using ENCQOR 5G’s digital and 5G technological infrastructure.
- And the adoption project program which targets innovative digital infrastructure and 5G technology use cases in diverse sectors, with the aim of illustrating their practical application.
In Ontario, SMEs can submit their project as part of the ENCQOR 5G Demonstration Program which supports standalone projects, as well as collaborations between SMEs and industrial partners and/or public sector organizations.
Through these three programs, ENCQOR 5G will finance 50% of the cost of development project work for the SMEs accepted, in accordance with the terms set out in the program used.
Continuation of operations
Furthermore, ENCQOR 5G is continuing its operations in a sustained manner despite the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. In recent weeks, ENCQOR 5G has had the pleasure of welcoming on board several new SMEs working on very diverse projects. These include, notably, advanced localization technologies, telemedicine applications, Internet of Things projects, as well as enhanced virtual reality.
Naturally, we have had to adapt to the new environment resulting from the present crisis. With the indefinite closure of our 5 centres for innovation located in Quebec and Ontario, SMEs can now take advantage of our 5G platform’s remote functionalities. Our partners, Prompt and the OCE, have also implemented new virtual approaches to continue their operations and support SMEs, in particular with regard to Boot Camps, training activities and the addition of Webinars on specific subjects.
We are also inviting Quebec and Ontario SMEs to continue submitting new projects to ENCQOR 5G. We need your expertise and know-how to build a 5G ecosystem in Canada that will be able to shine not only in our country, but also around the world.
Thank you all for your participation!
