5G (ENCQOR) Technology Development Challenge for SMEs

Traffic Manager: Develop an intelligent routing SW for multiple 5G Network

Challenge Launch Date:

March 27, 2020

Challenge Deadline:

April 17, 2020 (expired)

Challenge Statement:

Develop a distributed or central intelligent routing SW (hereon called Traffic Manager) that can decide an optimal traffic path in a system formed by multiple 5G Networks.

The Traffic Manager:

  • shall interface with Modem and Radio Access Network (RAN) APIs to implement the optimal path.
  • shall form encrypted tunnels to prevent intermediary nodes from seeing transmitted content.
  • shall support forming traffic paths up to a minimum of 5 hops
  • scale up to 100,000 individual Traffic Manager nodes and preferably beyond.
  • shall support up to 10 Gbps traffic at each Traffic Manager node.
  • shall be written in leading programming languages, like Java, C++ or similar.
  • shall have all the basic Fault, Configuration, Alarm, Performance and Security (FCAPS) tools and SNMP based monitoring via an O&M Manager

The installation and configuration manuals shall be supplied.

Project Partner:

Ericsson Canada Inc.

Timeline:

Approximately 14 weeks with delivery date in 2020

Available Funding:

Up to 200 000$ CAD

Applicant Type:

SME with less 500 employees registered in Quebec

Location:

At SME location in Quebec with 5G testing in one of ENCQOR 5G Hubs in MTL or QC.

Project Details:

Ericsson is developing a system that provides E2E connectivity by connecting multiple RANs. Development work is needed to architect, build, test and roll out the Traffic Manager that will create and implement optimal traffic paths over this system.

Written Q&A will be supported. Please submit your written questions to  aauger@promptinnov.com by April 3rd for first batch and April 10th for the second. All questions and answers will be available to all challenge participants

Project Goals/Outcomes:

  • Deliver a functioning SW sub-system and associated documentation.
  • Readiness to participate in further phases of the product roll out as an extended scope.

Applicant Capabilities:

  • Previous Experience in developing routing SW.
  • Understanding of 5G Network architecture is required.
  • Experience with mesh servers is preferred.
  • Experienced with REST APIs is preferred.
  • Understanding of RAN APIs and Modem APIs is a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Interested SMEs must submit a (max) 10 pages document (in .pdf) with the Statement of interest describing its expertise and capabilities using the form below.
  • Selected SMEs will be invited for a live demo/presentation with the project owners
  • It is highly recommended that interested SMEs participate to one of the free 5G trainings offered by ENCQOR (https://quebec.encqor.ca/formations/)
